Sunshine is healthy and a Sunshine Act would shed light on the payments doctors get from pharmaceutical companies, Cochrane Collaboration co-chair Cindy Farquhar says.
New Zealand needs more disclosure of payments and gifts from pharmaceutical companies to clinicians, according to Cochrane Collaboration co-chair Cindy Farquhar.
The New Zealand branch of the Cochrane Collaboration – a not-for-profit focused on producing credible health information – held a symposium on 24 November on industry influence in healthcare and research.
Professor Farquhar told the around 50 attendees that New Zealand needs some transparency legislation like the US Physician Payments Sunshine Act.
“I think that we could do with moving towards transparency – it’s the first step in reducing bias,” she says.
